Below are my notes from the Pentecostal World Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 8-27-13.

First up is…

Rev. Dr. “Tan Sri” Prince Gunaratnam

Chairman of Pentecostal World Fellowship since 2010.  He is the Senior Pastor of the Calvary Christian Church and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Topic: We are in a Kairos moment.  Speaking from the book of Esther.

God is not mentioned in Esther.  He doesn’t have to be.  He is always active and involved.

Pastor Prince Guneratam of Calvary Church Malaysia

Pastor Prince Guneratam of Calvary Church Malaysia

The church is called to be a virgin church.

I Cor 6:18-20  We are called to live sexually clean, holy, righteous.

2 Cor 6:14-18

This is not a time to play games with God.  God has brought us in for “such a time as this.”

Satan has a timetable and wants to destroy people.  But God doesn’t want anyone to perish but that all should come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  And God has YOU in place.

Five Virgins parable- Five foolish or five wise?  Are you redeeming the time?

The wise understood the Word of God, what Jesus said, and they were prepared for his return.

Are we making ourselves ready?  Doing the will of God?  Is our oil full and burning?

When you woke up this morning did you all the Holy Spirit to touch you, fill you?

It’s so easy to lose the reason for God saving you, rescuing you.

Esther was totally oblivious.  Are we?

We need to go into all the world and tell them of God’s love.

“The Church should not just enjoy her life of royalty but be willing to risk her life for the sake of the Kingdom of God to advance till every soul is reached with the Gospel.”

God has saved you and filled your with the Holy Spirit.  Don’t try to protect your life.

There are “Hamans” around.  But there are also “Mordecais”!

“If Jesus had to suffer, are you bigger them him?  Suffering is not bad.”

If you think someone came here to pat you on the back… you are mistaken.

I once asked David Yonggi Cho, “How do you handle the compliments?”  Cho answered, “like chewing gum; enjoy it, when the sweetness goes out, spit it out.”

Don’t walk away saying, (God) bless me, bless me, bless me and if you don’t then bye bye.  Trust in his heart.

“God wants your obedience.  Don’t give him a substitute.”

Don’t reason when doing the things of God. Bible says, “his ways are not your ways.”

Someone here needs to say, “God kill me today.”  I’m going to go back as a resurrected man or woman.

God cannot fail, so you can’t too.

He shares some of his personal story:

God called me at 12 years old.  I grew up in Pentecostal home.  Dad would shout, “It’s prayer time!” when we were all still sleeping.  I was filled with the Holy Spirit at a “tarrying meeting.”  Had a vision of traveling a steep road.  There was huge bright light ahead and a desire inside.  Got to the top and was blinded by the lights.  I woke up literally blinded by that vision.

My Mother thought I was playing a game, but I wasn’t.  There was such a peace and assurance in my heart.  Later that day, I saw Jesus with his Bible open.  As he laid his hands on me, I also felt the hand of the evangelist (at a night meeting).  Right then my eyes were opened again and I knew that God had called me.

When I became a teenager I backslid.  I thought that since I had an experience I could never backslide.  “Pentecostals, don’t live on your experiences.  Let it be a fresh relationship.”  You need daily bread.  As a teenager I tried to be like Elvis Presley.  I drifted.  God in his goodness and faithfulness brought me back…

An older man asked me to go to a revival.  I didn’t want to go, but I couldn’t say no.  I said I would take the man there but then take the bus right back.  But the bus had already left.  So I was forced to attend that night service.  I was angry.  The preacher got up and started to prophesy.  I was saying things in my heart and it was as though the preacher was speaking to them.

It felt like no one else was there.  The word came, “God will never force you, he will never push you.”  I went to my room and tried to sleep.  The old man came in and said Prince, I know you’re not sleeping.  God is speaking to you.  I cried and cried.  I said, “I will be a preacher.”  I told my Pastor that I wanted to go to Bible school.  The Pastor said, “cut your hair, put on some good pants, prove that you are sincere and I will sign your application.  I applied anyway.  The school was full.  They told me that if someone doesn’t come we will call you.  Someone didn’t come. The rest is history.”

Walk in simple obedience.  God knows what he is doing.  Be faithful.

Session Two:

WEA- Secretary General Dr. Geof Tunnicliff present.  He said, “I can’t think of one place we represent that doesn’t have Pentecostal leaders leading the alliances.”  Geof was an advisor on the Bible TV series along with Pastor Prince G.  The King of Jordan sent an invitation to him to come speak on religious liberty.  His daughter attends a Pentecostal Bible School in Canada.

Topic: Revelation 1

To the angels of the church, its leaders

The lampstands are the church

There are implications of the Book of Revelation that transcends the return of Christ.

“Left Behind and Happy About It.”- There is a sense in which we have already been left behind.

Revelation is a love letter.  It is a comfort.  The Revelation of… Jesus Christ.

The book of Revelation is not a neat tidy theological document.  It’s a Hebrew opera.  It’s wild, explosive, light, and pictures.

It begins with the most beautiful image.  John says, he was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day.  (He was in a Pentecostal church! )

  • White hair= wise
  • Flaming Eyes = penetrates the darkness
  • Human heroes are said to “have clay feet”, but not Jesus.  Burnished Bronze.
  • Two edged sword: Word that opens us up and turns and heals us.  Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved.

Young adults need to understand the relationship between Christ and his Church.  If you are gonna love Jesus, you have to love the Church because he loves the church.

Jesus is walking among his churches as a gardener.  Jesus is revealed in his church, in the local church.

Jesus is revealed with seven stars in his hand- the angels of the seven churches.  The word in Greek means “messenger.”

Who is the angel of God in the church?  It is the Pastor.

Unto the angel of _______________________, say this_________________________________.  The message is contextualized and personalized.

“Not every church in the world has to look like an American television show.  It can be contextualized and personalized.”

Pastor, you are an angel standing in the palm of Christ.

On the day of Pentecost the question was asked, “What does it mean?”  For that answer they had to wait for the end of Peter’s sermon.  When Peter preaches that Pentecostal message to which thousands responded the meaning is that now there is power to bring people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.”

“Any brand of Pentecostalism that has no burden for souls is an aberration.”

Incarnational:  not the message but the man himself.

Why Simon Peter?  We would not have chosen him.  50 days earlier he denied Jesus with a curse in his mouth!

A man from his own failure, renewed by the Holy Spirit, contextualized for the hearers.

Where did that come from?  Pentecost!  Unexplainable courage.

“I’m glad it was Simon Peter that preached the message at Pentecost.  There is hardly any among us that have so nullified our calling that we cannot preach Jesus Christ.”

Pastors, you are a star.  You are in the right hand of Jesus.

He is with you in this.

Preach it in the anointing of the power of Pentecost.  The same power is accessible to us.

One of the things no one ever told me in Bible School is “Sheep bite.”

Dr. DeLonn Rance

AGTS Leader, Leader: Misiones en Conjunto, Former MK

TopicBreakout session: Missions “Reach: Fundamental Pentecostal Missiological Declarations”

God seeks…”Where are you?”  God continues to seek out that which has been lost.

Luke 19:  “The Son of Man came to seek and save that which was lost.”

Rev 22:17:  The Spirit and BRIDE say, “Come!…”  The Church is the Bride of Christ.

To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with a missionary Spirit.

Story of Ruth- 17 years old, listening to Sunday school teacher talk about importance of being baptized in the Spirit.  She was baptized in the Spirit and felt that God was calling her to be become a missionary.

1.  The Fire of the Holy Spirit- affirm that the purpose of the fire and baptism of the Holy Spirit is to give witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is not optional.

Anointing means authority to accomplish the purposes of Christ to take the Gospel to the nations.  Empowerment, both natural gifts, reasoning, etc and supernatural help- that is the fire that comes from on high and comes from Jesus.

2.  The Call of the Spirit- Rom 10:14  responsibility of the church to find and equip people who are willing to go.  DeLonn asked Ruth if she was willing to go.  She said, “yes.”  Raised her support from every little church, broke off the engagement with her boyfriend, learned a new language, and witnessed.  Prayed for her every day to make it.  The spirit calls, the Spirit sends!  She planted 3 churches and moved on to a new upg.

It is the Spirit that calls.  There are no formulas.  Each call is unique as the individual.

New paradigm shift needed for missionary formation where these issues are viewed through a lens of the Spirit.

God calls and empowers people regardless of educational background, age, race, gender, and socio-economic status.

3.  The Pentecostal message

Christ centered message of the FULL Gospel without apology.  Only Jesus saves, baptizes in Holy Spirit, heals, and is the soon coming King.

Experience with a purpose in order to be his missionary people.  Jesus demands it all!

4.  The Pentecostal Strategy

Found develop and strengthen indigenous local and national churches filled with manifestations of the HS including signs, miracles, and wonders.  Every church is unique.

Pentecostalism has been called “a religion made to travel.”  Inherent flexibility.  The message of the Gospel never changes, but how we communicate it must change from place to place.

We offer living water, but the cup we share it in must be culturally appropriate.

If you are not experiencing signs and wonders maybe its because you are not preaching the full Gospel.

Indigenous church: 3 self by the Spirit- self supporting, self governing, self propagating- led by the Spirit.

5.  The Missionary Prayer

Missionary work is a work of prayer.  Missionary work begins and is realized through prayer.

Dr. Ivan Satyavrata

Topic: 3 C’s for Pentecostal Mission in the 21st Century

Acts 4

We are living in a rapidly changing world in motion.  We have unprecedented cultural diversity.

Ideological Challenges

  • The Bull of the Middle East- Islam challenges the Gospel head on.
  • The Bear of the Far East- Refers to families of Eastern Religions

The bull challenges directly.  The bear tries to strangle through the “bear hug.”

We have typically confronted or compromised.

How then should we face these two challenges?

1.  Conviction– “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized they were unschooled men”…

We live in a diverse world where pluralism is held in high esteem.

Unique claims of the Gospel.  We need to regain confidence of the truth and power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Paul said, “I’m not ashamed of the Gospel.”

2.  Connection– Paul compelled to preach but different approaches.  Acts 17 and I Cor 9.  Paul looked for a connection.

We don’t have opponents among Hindus and Muslims but great opportunities.  Ask Holy Spirit to give us creative bridges.  They are not our enemies.  They are people for whom Christ has died.  I have tasted Jesus and he is good.  I want to share him with you.

3.  Credibility– We have more than a message.  We believe that God is present within our midst.  And when God is present then there are signs of his presence.  If a skunk walked into this room we would know it.  If someone works in a perfume factory then we would know it as well.

A shallow view can reduce missions to marketing.  No, credibility is absolutely essential.  Authentic life.

I am afraid for us. God forbid that we compromise the reality of the HS’s presence as manifested in fruit.

We are salt and light.  Turn the light on if it is dark.  If the meat is rotten, the question to ask is “where are the people of God?”

There is no shortage of religion in today’s world.  People are desperate for an experience of flesh and blood evidence that the Gospel is true.  This is what I call the fragrance of Christ which comes from the power of the HS.

Upcoming meetings

Aug 25th-28th 2014 in Indonesia

Feb 4-6th,

World Mission Congress

Enoch Adeboye

Night Meeting

Pastor from Lagos, Nigeria

Pastor Enoch is one of the main leaders of the church in Nigeria and of the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement globally.  He is overseer of the Redeemed Christian Churches of God which accounts for 12,000+ churches in over 147 nations.  His Holy Ghost meetings average about 500k in attendance.  His group recently dedicated a $15m facility in Texas.

His mission and vision for the churches is:

  • To make heaven.
  • To take as many people with us.
  • To have a member of RCCG in every family of all nations.
  • To accomplish No. 1 above, holiness will be our lifestyle.
  • To accomplish No. 2 and 3 above, we will plant churches within five minutes walking distance in every city and town of developing countries and within five minutes driving distance in every city and town of developed countries.
  • We will pursue these objectives until every Nation in the world is reached for the Lord Jesus Christ

With aims like this and numbers to back them up, you would think this man might be a little arrogant.  But actually he was one of the most humble men I have ever seen in the pulpit.  He started with worship, kneeling down as a soloist led people in “Come Let Us Adore Him.”  Very beautiful.  Though he grew up dirt poor, he went to college and got a Phd in Mathematics.

Most of his message, he just had the crowd praying and crying out to God.

Here our my notes on his talk…

Gen 1:1-4

Everywhere in the world you see demons in action.  People used to only think that there were demons in Africa.  The only difference between the demons in Africa and the demons in America is that the demons in Africa didn’t go to school.

5 of the 9 gifts of the Spirit have to do with speaking.  Whenever the Holy Spirit moves, God speaks.  When God speaks there will be healing- for individuals, families, and nations.

Psalm 107:20

Matt 8:5-13

The Almighty God can speak a word and heal.  Whenever the Holy Spirit is moving, there is a word of knowledge, word of wisdom etc.

2 Kings 7:1-11 There was a time when Israel was under siege.  Women were eating their children.  Spirit of God spoke and said within 24 hours things will change.  I am believing that the Word will go out from here and your nation will be healed.

Whenever God speaks, darkness gives way to light.

  • Mark 10: Blind Bartemaeus
  • Mark 5:1-15 Legion
  • Acts 9:1-6 Saul saw the light

God can speak and darkness can give way to light.

Acts 8:5-8 the whole city received the Lord and there was great joy in that city.

God is still in the business of sending his light.  There is no one that the Lord cannot save.  “I stand as a testimony of that.”

When the Spirit of God moves and God speaks and there is light the next thing you will notice is that the void becomes full.

Gen 3:  Initially everything was empty but then it became full.

Acts 2:1-4

It wasn’t in my plan to come to Malaysia.  My first plan was not to come.  I want to thank God for telling me to come.

Some have described my churches as “where two or three are gathered together.”  (laughs) More than 2,400 people gave their lives to Jesus through our group’s outreach ministry here in KL this week.

Holy Ghost meeting- we used to have to advertise.  Now we don’t have to because the Holy Spirit is moving.  If we allow the Holy Spirit to have his way, the crowds will come and churches will be filled.

If the church is going to win over all the new age movements, then the world needs to see the Holy Spirit in action.

Luke 1:34-37  How can the impossible become possible?  Simple answer: The Holy Spirit.

How many of you believe that within the next two years that we can see all of Malaysia saved?

All that Pharaoh needed was just two dreams in one night.  God can send two dreams in one night and all will be changed.

How do we get the Holy Spirit to move?

Acts 4  They prayed in one accord and the place shook.  If we pray in one accord I believe the Holy Spirit will move.  This will no longer be just a conference but it will be a conference that changes the world.

There may be people here who think they can keep on living in sin since they have given their life to Jesus.  But all things must become new if you are genuinely saved.

Prophetic word given: There is a man here who is in adultery.  God is calling you to repent.  If you don’t repent, your ministry will crumble within one year.  Another word was given for those who are feeling discouraged.  It was about God’s love.

Prayer and altar call given for the restoration of backsliders.  Many people came forward and prayed at the front.
